Perspective and Gratitude: Tools For An Improved State of Mind

by Megan K on July 12, 2011

There are times when things are going so badly in your day or life, that it can be hard to remember all the things that are going well.  When you are in the middle of those kinds of days, it is important to do whatever you can to get yourself out of that negative state so that you can function properly and so that you avoid polluting the people around you with your negativity.

How can you do that?

I find perspective and gratitude to be useful tools.

“The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity;

the optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

How we view things how much importance we give to them is our perspective.

When I am truly in a bad state, I do my best to remind myself that it could always be a lot worse and that, in my life span, whatever the current issues or dramas are they are usually not that important.

In combination with perspective, I use gratitude to improve my emotional state.  I think it is really tough to be unhappy and grateful at the same time.

“A Feeling of thankfulness or appreciation”.

I may not always be having the business success I’d like.  I may not always have harmony in my personal relationships.  But, I can always find something to be grateful for.

“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.”  ~Epictetus

One of my clients told me that she tries to choose her attitude.  I hope that after you read this, you too will consider choosing to view things optimistically, even when things get tough.

In good health,                                                                                                                                              Megan K

p.s. Thank you to my new Princess client for being so joyful and inspiring.
